Dolphin Classroom

Children in the Dolphin Class are 18 – 24 months.

May 2012 Dolphin Calendar

Our small center and classroom allow for lots of one-on-one time with all the children.  We work hard to help your child feel secure in a group setting by offering many opportunities for this age group to learn about their world and about other little people like themselves.

Children in the Dolphin Class are rapidly changing.  Their ability to use words to express their wants and desires is expanding from just one or two words to a whole sentence.  They are becoming more aware of the concept of others – learning about boundaries of behavior and awareness of other people in their lives.  A child’s excitement in learning new skills can be both exciting and frightening for them.  The Dolphin Class offers them a nurturing, safe place to explore their world and learn new skills.

When children leave the Dolphin Class they will be better able to develop friendships with their peers and express their feelings and needs in an understandable manner.  Through hands-on learning they will have had exposure to math, science, art, language, music and literature.  Our varied enrichments invite new people into their lives which not only has educational but social benefits.  As your child leaves the Dolphin Class you will notice a big difference in their personality.  They not only are ready for the next exciting step in the classroom, but they love the challenge and excitement of learning more skills.

A note from Miss Kimn:

My name is Kimn and I am the lead teacher for the Dolphin Room.  My goals for this age group are to help facilitate the children’s social, emotional, problem solving, and large and small motor development.  I want children to grow up to be confident, caring and energetic people able to successfully navigate the world we live in.  Children will leave my room ready and eager to learn and make good decisions throughout their lives.

Children are able to achieve these goals because they are provided with a safe place to explore who they are, how they can relate to others, and their emerging language skills.  In addition, we find opportunities every day to experience the wonders around us.  For example, we have some “pet plants” in our terrarium that allow us to experience how eco systems work as we watch the water condense and form “rain”.

Research shows that play is essential for all age groups.  We play with new objects and we play with each other.  The Dolphin Room is set up to help their imagination and creative thought processes.  Children need to get plenty of exercise in order for their brains to develop, so we play with toys and create opportunities that allow us to get moving every day.  We also provide a quiet place in the classroom so a child feels welcome to have their own space or alone time.

I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child!
