Parrot Classroom

The Parrot Classroom is for children ages three and a half to four and a half.

May 2012 Parrots Calendar

This classroom nurtures children’s growing need for social interaction and their need to organize their social and academic world.  By the end of their time in this classroom, children have a good grasp of beginning letter sounds and can recognize most letters and numbers.  They have a good concept of 1-to-1 correspondence and have begun to learn addition and subtraction.  They have the ability to ask questions about things they are curious about.  They can explore their world both physically and intellectually as they gain control of their muscles and their own creativity.  They have a vocabulary that enables them to express their feelings and speak to what they see in the world around them, create with their own hands and think with their active imaginations.

A note from Miss Colleen

Welcome to the Parrot Room!  This is an amazing place - I love coming to school each day.  Our room is so special because we share, explore and learn from each other every day.  We build a sense of commnity and consider ourselves a family away from home.  We strive to help each child become a well-rounded individual.  Every child is loved and valued.

We learn responsibility by taking care of ourselves, our friends, our guinea pig named George, our beta fish names Donnica and our plants.  Come and join us for a visit – our room is fun!

Colleen has been with YPLC since 2006.

Colleen has a bachelors degree in Elementary Education and is lead teacher and director qualified.   She continues to enjoy any opportunities to take additional trainings and to exchange ideas with other teachers. She teaches with an encouraging style that helps children and families feel welcome each and every day and she loves to see children learning new things and completing a task “by themselves”.

“I love working with children at YPLC because I have fun! I love to see the smiles of the children and I love making their time away from Mom and/or Dad an enjoyable learning experience.”

A note from Miss Rachael

Hello and welcome! I absolutely love working at YPLC.  The staff, kids and families are a treat to work with. Every day is a new part of each child’s journey that I am thankful to be a part of!

I am excitedto have you as part of our classroom.  I have been working at Young Peoples Learning Center for almost 2 years now and have truly found my passion.  I enjoy the children every day and value my time with them.  I have started my degree in Early Childhood Education and recognize the value in this work.

I always love to get to know children through playing with them, talking with them and trying to understand their world.  Using this knowledge, we are able to teach in a way that is effective and fun for each child. I encourage children to express themselves and to build their communication skills as a way of solving problems and feeling successful and confident.

Rachael  has been with YPLC since January 2010.

She is working toward her Early Childhood Degree at Front Range Community College. She is trained in the Pyramid Plus curriculum and is excited to learn more as she advances in her career at YPLC and her schooling. Rachael encourages children to express themselves and to build their communication skills as a way of solving problems and feeling successful and confident. She is excited to work with the children each day and brings that to the classroom each day and helps the children feel loved and comfortable in their learning environment.
