The Whale Classroom is for children 24 to 36 months.
As teachers, we help these children in becoming independent and creative while preserving their unique personalities. Your children will learn to dress themselves and learn how to use the bathroom. We practice getting along with our friends and taking care of our own things. Math, science, literature and art are incorporated into each day. We specialize in providing a loving and safe environment in which your child will grow and flourish.
The Whale Classroom is designed to accommodate your child’s active and changing personality. Through large muscle, small muscle and art activities, we teach colors, shapes, numbers, letters, counting, patterns, songs, finger plays, etc. We have a varied and interesting curriculum which engages each child in learning.
A note from Miss Liz
Hello and welcome! I have been with Young Peoples for 5 years now. I think the program here is phenomenal and we keep things very age appropriate and make sure children have the highest level of care. I enjoy my job and couldn’t see myself doing anything else. We welcome all the children in our class to learn and grow with us! We work on teaching ABC’s, primary colors, and counting to ten. We are working on using words in whole sentences and having good interactions with our peers.
It is important for us to consider our discipline techniques with each child in mind. We think that classroom environment and relationships between children and teachers are the most important steps we can take in guiding children to making good decisions. Beyond that, preventative measures and “soft spots” for children who might need a break from the classroom are our second level of intervention. “Safe Spots” are used when children need some space where they can think through how their behavior could be different. Our children are just starting to learn some of the behavior-decision making skills and we as teachers are there to help them every step of the way!
Liz has been with YPLC since 2006. She has taken college courses in Early Childhood Education and attends many trainings each year. Liz’s teaching style is very hands on. She believes it is important to be at the child’s level when working with them and enjoys her work-as-play while building the children’s skills in their structured activities and free play.
“I am excited about working with children at YPLC because it is so rewarding to see children succeed and grow. I love seeing a child’s smiling face when they accomplish something they did not think they could do.”
